Our first three days will be spent in Colombo. Here we have spent out time getting acclimated to the weather and the country. We have walked, visited parks, shopped, gone to temples, and art galleries. We have yet to visit the bazaar, and a couple of museums which we will do tomorrow.
We will then head off to Pinnwala where there is an elephant orphanage. I plan to hug one if I am allowed to :). We then move to Kandy for three days. From there we will go on short day trips in and around Kandy, including the city of Dambulla.
After that we head right into the mountains to Nuwara Eliya for some hiking and visiting of tea plantations. After a couple of days there we are going to a place called World’s End for an early morning hike. We will see the sunrise and the clouds roll in.
We then drive south to the coastal areas and spend 4 days exploring the coast from the cities of Unawatuna and Bentota. Where we will swim in the Indian Ocean, visit a turtle hatchery and see mask making to say the least.
After all of that we go back North to Colombo for our last day and say our goodbyes before we head back home. There is so much more to see in Sri Lanka, so much more to do. I’m really excited to be here and am just loving it. So I will leave this posting with a final comment: The Sri Lankan’s don’t say good bye. It has a finality to it that they do not like. Instead they say what can be translated as I’m coming and going, “gehing Inne”. This ensures that there will be another reunion, kind of like I will see you later. And so Gehin Inne.
